Congresswoman Hahn Releases Statement Regarding Paul Ryan Budget Proposal

Statement

Location: Washington, DC

Congresswoman Janice Hahn (CA-44) issued the following statement regarding the release of Congressman Paul Ryan's budget:

"Yet again, we have been presented with a budget that stands at odds with the morality of this nation. This proposal attempts to balance our budget on the backs of the middle class and low-income families while bowing to special interest groups and giving millionaires and billionaires unnecessary tax cuts. This budget turns its back on the struggling families in my district and across the country by cutting more than $135 billion from the food stamp program SNAP. While we see real success in the mission to make health care affordable for all Americans, Ryan's budget eliminates the Affordable Care Act and breaks our promise to seniors by fundamentally ending the Medicare program as we know it. This budget tears down the ladders that exists to help struggling families get ahead with its deep cuts to job training, education, and Pell Grants. Moreover, this budget would weaken our nation's transportation and infrastructure system, especially at a time when we should be investing in the infrastructure critical to our economic well-being. This budget would slash $52 billion from the transportation budget this year alone. The ideas presented in this plan ignore the economic realities that millions of Americans face. With one in three women and their families struggling on the brink of poverty, this budget would effectively push them over the edge. Americans deserve better. I am proud to stand firmly against this budget. "
