Governor Sean Parnell today commended the Alaska House of Representatives for passing House Bill 278, Alaska's Education Opportunity Act -- the governor's education legislation to create more educational opportunities in Alaska's public schools and to increase funding.
"House passage is a critical step toward improving Alaska's public schools and creating more educational opportunities for our students," Governor Parnell said. "I applaud the members for their diligence and hard work in crafting a package that provides more vocational and career training opportunities, improves access to charter schools, and increases public school funding. Finally, I want to thank the members of the Education and Finance Committees for their hard work.
"In the coming days when the bill moves to the Senate, I will continue working on a solution to reinstate residential school stipends. Supporting Alaska's residential schools is critical to our goal of creating more educational opportunity."
Alaska's Education Opportunity Act now heads to the Senate.
