Whip McCarthy Responds to EPA's Proposed Water Overreach

House Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy (CA-23) released the following statement on the Environmental Protection Agency's proposed rule to place more waterways under federal regulation:

"Today's proposal from the Environmental Protection Agency to place new bodies of water under federal jurisdiction is the latest example of the President's intent to overregulate and overburden our economic recovery for the sake of appeasing well-funded environmentalists. This regulation is directly aimed to undermine private property rights, which is a main tenet that guides America's economy and our rule of law, and expands the government's reach into our daily lives. The energy revolution that is currently transforming our economy would not be possible if private citizens on their private land were not able to exercise their private property rights to develop those resources.

"The Obama Administration has decided once again to ignore Congress and force its regulatory agenda on an American economy desperate to be unshackled. Last year, the House voted to block a similar proposal by a bipartisan vote. And rather than work around the legislative process, I call on the President to join House Republicans in embracing an energy and manufacturing renaissance to further strengthen America's place as the premier global economic leader.
