Governor Jindal Announces Capital Outlay Funding for Southeast Louisiana

Today, Governor Bobby Jindal announced the capital construction proposal for the next fiscal year (FY 2015), which includes millions in funding for projects in Southeast Louisiana. The proposal was submitted Monday to the Legislature in the form of House Bill 2.

Governor Jindal said, "These investments will build on our work to improve learning environments, make our roads safer for families, and make Louisiana more attractive to companies who want to expand or invest in our state."

Higher Education investments in the Southeast Region include:

19 million for the University Medical Center in Orleans Parish;
$6 million for improvements to the Computer Science and Technology Facility at Southeastern Louisiana University in Tangipahoa Parish, with an additional $2.25 million in new Priority 5 funding for a total investment of $8.25 million;
$3.975 million for the renovations and roof replacement to Talbot Hall at Nicholls State University in Lafourche Parish;
$2.72 million for the completion of the Information Resource Center at the University of New Orleans library in Orleans Parish;
$1.675 million for mechanical renovations to the Science Building at the University of New Orleans in Orleans Parish;
$585,000 for the field house at Nicholls State University in Lafourche Parish, with an additional $2.75 million in new Priority 5 funding for a total investment of $3.33 million;
$250,000 for renovations to Didier Field at Nicholls State University in Lafourche Parish, with an additional $750,000 in new Priority 5 funding for a total investment of $1.5 million;
$250,000 for renovations of the athletic training and meeting facilities at Nicholls State University in Lafourche Parish, with an additional $2.75 million in new Priority 5 funding for a total investment of $3 million;
$200,000 for a Diesel Marine, Welding, and Transportation Building for Fletcher Technical Community College in Terrebonne Parish.

Infrastructure investments in the Southeast Region include:

$15 million for the Morganza to the Gulf of Mexico Flood Control Feasibility study;
$7.1 million for a Governmental Operations and Emergency Center for the Morgan City Harbor and Terminal District in St. Mary Parish, with an additional $100,000 in new Priority 5 funding for a total investment of $7.2 million;
$6.625 million in new Priority 5 funding for the South Lafourche Airport Corridor Project in Lafourche Parish;
$3.21 million for the Thompson Road extension in Terrebonne Parish, with an additional $2.22 million in new Priority 5 funding for a total investment of $5.43 million;
$2.135 million for the Mandeville bypass road in St. Tammany Parish, with an additional $4.86 million in new Priority 5 funding for a total investment of $7 million;
$1.7 million for the Blind River Freshwater Diversion in St. James Parish, with an additional $19.2 million in new Priority 5 funding for a total investment of $20.9 million;
$1.5 million for the Globalplex Intermodal Access Road in St. John the Baptist Parish;
$1.4 million for the Nolty J. Theriot Road elevation project in Lafourche Parish.

Additional investments in the Southeast Region:

$25 million for the New Orleans Exhibition Hall Authority for the property development project in Orleans Parish, with an additional $50 million in new Priority 5 funding for a total investment of $75 million;
$13.2 million for the Audubon 2020 exhibits for the Audubon Nature Institute in Orleans Parish, with an additional $13 million in new Priority 5 funding for a total of $26.2 million;
$13 million for the Capital Expansion Project, including the parking structure, the sky bridge, the Andrew Higgins Plaza, the Train Station Experience, and Canopy for the National World War II Museum in Orleans Parish;
$4.2 million for the land acquisition and additional cabins at the Bayou Segnette State Park in Jefferson Parish;
$2.835 million for the Westwego Fire Station in Jefferson Parish;
$2 million in new Priority 5 funding for land acquisition and planning for the Bayou Segnette Recreational Complex in Jefferson Parish;
$1.5 for the planning and construction of the Bayou Segnette Sports Complex improvements, including the Hall B expansion in Jefferson Parish.
