Today, Congressman Peter Roskam (IL-06) released the following statement on heavy rocket fire from the Gaza Strip into Israel:
"Today, the Iran-backed terrorist group Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) in Gaza barraged Israel with the heaviest rocket fire in over two years. This unwarranted action comes just days after Israeli naval forces intercepted an Iranian arms shipment to terror proxies in Gaza that included an array of deadly missiles. These incidents serve as a constant reminder of Israel's unparalleled security concerns and Iran's unabashed support for terrorism across the Middle East. They also highlight the urgent need for Congress to fully fund cooperative U.S.-Israel missile defense programs--including Iron Dome, David's Sling, Arrow, and Arrow 3--which are vital to shielding Israel and U.S. service members overseas from increasingly sophisticated missile attacks. The United States should do everything in its power to ensure that Israel maintains the right and capacity to defend itself against these heinous acts of terror."
