Today, Congressman Peter Roskam (IL-06) appeared on CBNC with Rick Santelli to discuss his bill to create a Special Inspector General for Monitoring the Affordable Care Act, or SIGMA. The Special Inspector General would have the authority to reach into the many federal departments, outside contractors and a deeply involved White House to provide American families answers on a law that is increasing their out-of-pocket costs, restricting individuals' access to doctors and providers, and forcing million to lose the health insurance they had all together.
"I've introduced legislation to create a Special Inspector General to oversee the Affordable Care Act, Obamacare. And here's why: it's $1.8 trillion in spending; there's no place, Rick, you can go to get all of the information that you need; families are continuing to struggle as the Administration is rolling out things on a ad hoc basis. There's no one place to go, no single inspector general that has jurisdiction over everything. Look at where we've done this in the past -- Special Inspector General for TARP saved billions, Neil Barofsky did. There was a Special Inspector General for Iraq, a Special Inspector General for Afghanistan. Cumulatively, they've all saved a fortune."
