U.S. Congressman Paul Broun, M.D. (GA-10) today released the following statement after voting in support of H.R. 4138, the Enforce the Law Act. H.R. 4138 works to prevent executive overreach by allowing Congress to sue the executive branch for failing to act in accordance with the Constitution. This bill passed in the House of Representatives today by a vote of 233-181.

"President Obama has made it clear that he has no intention of working with Congress - instead he has a 'pen and a phone' which he will use to advance his own political agenda, Constitutional or not," said Rep. Broun. "The Constitution requires that the President 'take care that the laws be faithfully executed.' Unfortunately, we've seen the President ignoring rather than enforcing laws, arbitrarily and repeatedly changing laws, and using regulatory power to make law. It's time the President starts adhering to the Constitution as intended by our Founding Fathers, not picking and choosing which laws he wants to enforce for political expediency. He has already made changes to Obamacare and suspended parts of our immigration laws - there's no telling what could be next. That's why it is vital that we have legislation in place that will hold the President accountable for his unprecedented disregard for the rule of law. I urge the Senate to act swiftly on this bill, so that we can restore balance to our branches of government, and return to a Constitutionally limited government as intended by our Founding Fathers."
