A bi-partisan majority in the U.S. House, including U.S. Representative Cynthia Lummis, voted today 233-181 to pass H.R. 4138: the Executive Needs to Faithfully Observe and Respect Congressional Enactments (ENFORCE) of the Law Act of 2014. This bill gives the individual chambers of the U.S. Congress a legal recourse for civil action against the executive branch should it fail to enforce the laws.
"Congress is accountable to the American people," said Rep. Lummis. "However, there are far too many bureaucrats in the executive branch who consider themselves above the American people and, in many cases, above the law. This bill makes those bureaucrats and the President accountable to our constituents. It is far past time that Washington was made to answer to the people it governs. I hope the Senate takes this chance to enforce the constitutional system of checks and balances that protects the American people from executive overreach."
