Governor Lincoln D. Chafee today announced a one-day event to benefit Rhode Island's most vulnerable residents. To highlight the Affordable Care Act, the Department of Behavioral Healthcare, Developmental Disabilities and Hospitals (BHDDH) will partner with the Mental Health Association of Rhode Island and the Rhode Island Parent Information Network on Saturday (March 8) to offer health plan enrollment opportunities throughout the State.
"Rhode Islanders are fortunate to have expanded access to several affordable health care choices through HealthSource RI," Governor Chafee said. "This day-long event will offer help and guidance through these complex and important insurance decisions."
"Get Covered Day" is part of President Obama's effort to promote the benefits and importance of affordable healthcare for everyone," Craig Stenning, Director of BHDDH, said. "We are pleased to contribute to this important campaign."
Navigators from the Rhode Island Parent Information Network and the Mental Health Association of Rhode Island will be at the Anchor Recovery Center in Pawtucket from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.; at BHDDH in Cranston from noon to 3 p.m.; and at Harrington Hall, a local homeless shelter, in the evening. The navigators will assist Rhode Island residents who wish to obtain health insurance, including those who are currently eligible to enroll in Medicaid. In collaboration with the Providence Plan, HealthSource RI's outreach team also will be hosting an enrollment event on Saturday from 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., at AS220, an artists' collaborative in Providence.
"We hope all Rhode Island individuals and families will take advantage of these opportunities to get covered as the March 31 end of the open enrollment period approaches," said Christine Ferguson, director of HealthSource RI, Rhode Island's health benefits exchange. "Our Contact Center specialists are available seven days a week to walk you through the enrollment process."
