Today, Congressman Bill Cassidy commended the U.S. House of Representatives for passing the Grimm-Cassidy amended version of the Homeowner Flood Insurance Affordability Act (H.R. 3370). Dr. Cassidy joined with Congressmen Michael Grimm (R-NY), Steve Scalise (R-LA) and other House members of both parties from across the country to draft and pass the legislation.

Dr. Cassidy offered the following statement:

"Tonight, we accomplished a great victory for over 500,000 Louisiana families. Members of Congress from both parties and from across the country joined together to pass the Grimm-Cassidy Amendment to provide long-term flood insurance relief. This bill makes sure that flood insurance rates are fair and predictable for Louisiana families. It reinstates grandfathered flood insurance rates and puts a cap on premium increases. Now we need the Senate and the President to move quickly to make this legislation law."

Representative Michael Grimm, who co-authored the legislation, released the following statement:

"I was proud to stand with Representative Cassidy on the House floor tonight to pass legislation that will save families across the nation from skyrocketing insurance premiums and will increase the viability of the NFIP. The Grimm-Cassidy amendment is a collaboration of Big Apple and the Big Easy principles--its common-sense legislation and the next step to provide individuals permanent flood insurance relief."

Additionally, House Majority Leader Eric Cantor offered the following remarks:

"Representative Cassidy has been a leader in the fight to ensure flood insurance remains affordable to all Americans affected by Biggert-Waters. I applaud his determination to work across party lines to ensure this legislation passed the House."
