Guthrie to Co-Chair Newly-Introduced Spectrum Caucus

Congressman Brett Guthrie (KY-02) today announced that he is establishing a new Congressional caucus on spectrum issues with Congresswoman Doris Matsui (D-CA).

"Spectrum, a key component of innovation, is facing an increasingly high demand while in limited supply," said Congressman Guthrie. "The caucus will attempt to educate our colleagues on the importance of spectrum policy and identify ways to increase access to and better utilize spectrum."

As our economy increasingly relies on spectrum, this caucus will be an important mechanism for our colleagues and congressional staff to engage on the spectrum policies, both licensed and unlicensed, facing our economy," said Congresswoman Matsui.

Congressman Guthrie and Congresswoman Matsui are the co-chairs of the House Energy and Commerce Committee Federal Spectrum Working Group. They have also introduced two bipartisan bills this Congress - H.R. 2739, the "Efficient Use of Government Spectrum Act" and H.R. 3674, the "Federal Spectrum Incentive Act of 2013."

"Studies estimate that 40 percent of smartphone owners use the Internet before getting out of bed in the morning," said Congressman Guthrie. "Today's consumers are using a variety of smart phones and tables throughout the day. In order to meet the current demand and prepare for the advancements of tomorrow, we must explore all possible approaches to freeing up and better utilizing spectrum."
