Today, Republican Israel Caucus co-chair and Chief Deputy Whip Peter Roskam (R-IL) released the following statement on House passage of H.R. 938, the United States-Israel Strategic Alliance and Security Act of 2013.

"Today, the House once again reaffirmed its commitment to an unbreakable U.S.-Israel relationship and Israel's right to defend itself by itself. From Iran's pursuit of nuclear weapons to the civil war in Syria and political turmoil in Egypt, ongoing volatility in the Middle East underscores the importance of a secure and stable Jewish State of Israel. This bipartisan legislation, which declares Israel a major strategic partner of the United States, strengthens multilateral cooperation between our two nations at a critical point in time. I look forward to working with my Senate colleagues to send this long overdue bill to the President's desk."

Congressman Roskam was amongst the first cosponsors of H.R. 938. In Spring 2013, he authored "Sustaining the Pillars of the U.S.-Israel Relationship" for The Jewish Policy Center's inFocus Quarterly, which highlighted the mutually beneficial nature of the U.S.-Israel relationship.
