Bill Johnson Statement on Keystone XL Report

Statement

Date: Feb. 27, 2014
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Bill Johnson (R-Marietta) released the following statement after the State Department's Inspector General concluded that the State Department followed federal conflict-of-interest rules when vetting the relationship between the private contractor and the pipeline builder:

"President Obama has stated several times that he would like 2014 to be a quote, "year of action.' He should use the pen he so often talks about to immediately approve the Keystone XL pipeline. It has been five years since this administration started its review of the pipeline and study after study has shown that the Keystone XL pipeline would pose little environmental risk -- in addition to the thousands of jobs this pipeline would create. His former Energy Secretary even stated that President Obama's decision on the pipeline would be a "political one and not a scientific one.' I urge President Obama to immediately approve this job-creating pipeline as soon as possible."
