Congressman Joe Kennedy today announced that he will participate in a bipartisan Congressional delegation to Asia next week. Led by Congressman Ed Royce (R-CA), Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, Kennedy and seven other Members of Congress will spend a week traveling across Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, the Philippines and Hong Kong. The trip will take place from February 15 to February 24.

"As this region confronts a unique set of economic, social and human rights issues, our trip to Asia will give the Congressional delegation a chance to witness firsthand the numerous factors impacting stability in the region," said Congressman Kennedy. "It will underscore the dynamic relationships between the United States and the countries we will be visiting, as well as the strong alliances we share on everything from global security to economic development."

The Congressional delegation will meet with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, South Korea's President Park Geun-hye, Taiwan's President Ma Ying-jeou, Philippines' President Benigno Aquino and Hong Kong's Chief Executive C.Y. Leung. The delegation will also spend a day in the city of Tacloban in the Philippines to observe the damage caused by last year's Typhoon Haiyan.

Congressman Kennedy is a member of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs.
