Today Ranking Member Henry A. Waxman released the following statement on the adoption of a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) that addresses the accuracy of caller location information for all wireless 911 calls:

"Last September I joined my colleagues of the California congressional delegation in urging the FCC to take steps to update its 911 location accuracy rules for wireless calls made from indoors. I am pleased that the FCC acted upon our request by issuing a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking today to ensure that public safety officials can better locate all 911 callers. A well-functioning 911 system must be able to ensure that callers can be located by first responders, wherever they are, regardless of the technology they are using. I applaud the FCC for taking today's important step, and I look forward to working with the Commission toward final adoption of the rules."
