U.S. Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL), Chairman of the Middle East and North Africa Subcommittee, made the following statement regarding reports of the arrest of pro-democracy leader Jorge Luis García Perez "Antunez". Statement by Ros-Lehtinen:
"In another unsurprising act, the Cuban regime has raided the home of pro-democracy leader Jorge Luis Garcia Perez 'Antunez' and arrested him during his hunger strike to protest the totalitarian state. We must continue to stand in solidarity with Antunez in his fight for freedom. We must not stand silent and allow this unjust, immoral and illegal arrest to continue. I call on the Obama administration to stop any overtures to normalize relations with this despotic regime and instead ask world leaders to stand in solidarity with Antunez and all pro-democracy activists in Cuba."
