In Hawaii, working the land and sustainable farming is more than an industry -- it's a tradition and way of life. Whether it's thousands of acres, or a small taro patch at a local organic farm, we in Hawaii depend on our agriculture and realize the unique challenges -- and rich potential -- our aina provides.

I am inspired to see Hawaii's shift from agribusiness, back to the small family farm. As a state that imports nearly 85% of our food supply, we recognize the importance of supporting the men and women who produce food for Hawaii. Practicing sustainable farming and respecting our state's resources are key to Hawaii's self-sufficiency.

We can make a difference by supporting watersheds like the Lower Hamakua Ditch project or working with the USDA and UH to ensure our crops are protected from invasive species. While these are challenges our farmers and ranchers will continue to face, my support for those who work our aina will not waver.
