WASHINGTON, DC -- Congresswoman Carol Shea-Porter issued the following statement after voting for S. 540, legislation that would suspend the debt ceiling until March 15, 2015, avoiding a global economic catastrophe. The bill passed the House of Representatives 221-201.

"The full faith and credit of the United States of America should never be held hostage. I'm relieved that Speaker Boehner acted in the best interest of our economy and allowed a clean bill to come to the floor."
