Issue Position: The Issues

Issues
With a background that includes six years of experience at the State House, I know something about the problems and possibilities of Indiana government and how to get things done for our community. I now want to put this knowledge and insight to work for the residents of downtown and the south and west sides by helping to make the system work on their behalf and for our community as a whole.

Since the first week in March, I have been knocking on doors almost daily to meet and listen to the people I hope to represent. The list below incorporates what I've learned are the top concerns of the hundreds of citizens who have welcomed me at their doorstep to date. Along with my own thinking, these priorities include:

Finding a solution to the abandoned housing crisis that is blighting our neighborhoods and driving down the value of our homes.
Strengthening law enforcement to fight ever increasing local crime resulting from the stagnant economy.

Making sure our local infrastructure -- sidewalks, alley ways, roads, drains and parks -- are monitored, repaired, and maintained in a systematic and routine manner.

Finding ways to rebuild our local economy and create more and better jobs with an emphasis on helping existing businesses, generating small business start-ups, and attracting new businesses and other sources of commerce.

Holding the line on taxes and cutting wasteful government spending.

Guaranteeing top quality public education at all levels, including for children with special needs.

Protecting our seniors and the most vulnerable.

Improving mass transit.

Bringing fresh energy and visibility to the role of State Representative with a commitment to 24/7 accessibility to help residents whenever they have a problem or a suggestion that involves government.

Focusing on solutions to problems and getting results by listening to and working with everyone instead of engaging in partisan and ideological conflicts that have resulted in a breakdown in public confidence in government.
