Government Reform

We find ourselves in the position of having too many governments and not being well governed. We have just over 1000 elected township trustees, each operating out-of-sight and as they wish. There are nearly 300 unique school districts in Indiana yet some elected officials want to legislate as if they all were the same. This chaos is allowed to go forward in the face of enormous fiscal pressures. We must implement more key recommendations of the Kernan-Shepard report which was designed to eliminate unnecessary layers of government. I have and will continue to work in a bipartisan manner to reduce the number of elected officials and taxing districts in our state. As a freshmen legislator, I authored legislation to reform our government with the goal of more efficient service, better accountability from elected officials and the possibility of lower taxes. These actions, which are more needed than ever, have the power to save us money and make our government more understandable.
