Congressman Charles W. Boustany, Jr., M.D., (R-South Louisiana) issued the following statement after the House Ways and Means Committee passed H.R. 3685, the Stop Targeting of Political Beliefs by the IRS Act of 2014. The legislation blocks proposed IRS regulations constricting the rights of conservative groups across the country:
"Over the last two years, the House Ways and Means Committee took the lead in uncovering the truth surrounding the IRS targeting groups based on political affiliations. Now, the Committee is standing up for conservative groups across America by introducing legislation to stop Big Government from silencing the voices of taxpayers exercising their right of free speech. I'll continue fighting to protect conservative groups across America from the unlawful behavior of the IRS and any other government entity refusing to acknowledge the rights included in the Constitution. With today's successful passage of H.R. 3685, the entire House of Representatives will now have the opportunity to vote for this important legislation. I encourage my colleagues to support H.R. 3685 by voting for it when it comes to the floor of the House."
