WASHINGTON, D.C. --Congressman Peter Roskam (IL-06) released the following statement on the national unemployment report for January:

"Last week, the State Department nullified the environmental concerns the president used to delay construction of the Keystone XL pipeline for over five years. A few days ago, the Congressional Budget Office estimated that the healthcare law will further diminish the already historically weak labor force by 2 million more jobs. This morning's job report showed sluggish hiring for the month of January, while CBO is predicting a weak economy for the long term, with slower growth and higher deficits only a few years away.

"And yet the president continues to ignore policies that will rebuild our economy for the next decade and beyond. He can use his pen to sign the Keystone XL pipeline and usher in a new energy future. The president can pick up the phone and call Harry Reid and encourage him to pass export agreements that will level the playing field for American companies competing globally. And the president can listen to the numerous Republican proposals that improve access to quality, affordable healthcare without disrupting and deflating our economy. The path is clear, the common ground is there, I urge the president to seize it."
