Press Release

Date: Dec. 11, 2013

Today, U.S. Congressman Dave Joyce (OH-14) voted in favor of the Kids First Research Act of 2013, 2019, which would prioritize taxpayer funding for scientific research of pediatric diseases and disorders such as cancer, autism and Fragile X. It is paid for by eliminating taxpayer funding for the RNC and DNC conventions. Joyce stated:

"Pediatric research breakthroughs are giving families and children suffering from childhood diseases hope every day. This bill will prioritize funds to continue this crucial research on behalf of the children fighting pediatric diseases and disorders such as cancer, autism and Fragile X.

Joyce is a cosponsor of the Kids First Research Act of 2013, introduced by Rep. Gregg Harper (MS-3) and Rep. Tom Cole (OK-4). Gabriella Miller gained national attention through her advocacy for childhood cancer research awareness during her 11-month battle with a brain tumor. She raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for the Make-A-Wish Foundation, and helped launch the Smashing Walnuts Foundation to fund pediatric cancer research. This bill redesignates the Presidential Election Campaign Fund as the 10-Year Pediatric Research Initiative Fund. The legislation passed by a vote of 295-103.
