Funding Local Schools
Texans value education and expect those who graduate from the state's public schools to be equipped to compete in the global economy. They also expect the money allotted to education to go toward supporting the students and teachers in the classroom, not top-heavy administrations.
Senator John Carona understands and supports these views. He is a proven leader for education who has worked to restore critical funding that helps Texas schools serve the state's growing population and ensure more students graduate. As a result, teachers groups all across Texas have repeatedly praised his education efforts.
As State Senator, John Carona has demonstrated his commitment to education. In recent legislative sessions, he has supported measures that would:
Reduce the number of end-of-course exams and provide students with degree-plan options, including technology endorsements (HB5, 83rd R).
Expand public charter schools (SB2, 83rd R).
Give local school districts more control over contracts (SB8, 82nd - 1st Called Session).
Senator Carona understands that education is often what turns young adults away from a criminal pathway and toward productive and responsible lives. So he is constantly working with parents, teachers, business leaders and legislators to find how best to balance the funding, standards and accountability necessary to properly educate a public school population that is growing and increasingly diverse.
Going forward, State Senator John Carona has the experience and statesmanship needed to provide good stewardship of our precious education dollars and strive for improvement and innovation in public education.
