Dr. Benishek: "Bipartisan Funding Bill Helps Provide Economic Stability"

Statement

Dr. Dan Benishek (MI-01) today released the following statement after voting in support of bipartisan legislation to fund the federal government:

"My top priority is to help create jobs in Northern Michigan and put more people back to work. Frankly, that can only be achieved if there is certainty and economic stability. This bipartisan bill helps achieve that goal by ensuring there is no shutdown and our priorities are met in a fiscally responsible manner. It is a step forward in the way we are governing.

This effort also contains important provisions that will help Northern Michigan, such as protecting the pensions of our disabled veterans, increasing support for the Great Lakes, and maintaining funding for Michigan's airports. This bill actually exceeds the goals put forth by the original Ryan Budget for next year, which is significant. While I would like to see more significant reductions in Washington's wasteful spending, a divided government means that both sides need to compromise and work together to do what's best for the American people."
