Reid Statement on Nevada's December Employment Report

Statement

Nevada Senator Harry Reid released the following statement today regarding Nevada's unemployment rate falling to 8.8%. According to the Nevada Department of Employment, Training, and Rehabilitation, this is the lowest rate Nevada has seen since November, 2008.

"Today's report shows why Republicans must join with Democrats to extend emergency unemployment insurance for the 1.6 million Americans and 21,000 Nevadans whose benefits have been cut off. The economy is improving for some, but tens of thousands of people in Nevada and millions more across the country still cannot find work no matter how hard they try. Although there was a modest drop in unemployment claims statewide, Las Vegas unemployment has increased. We must not yield in our fight to create jobs for those that need them so badly. For those still unemployed, we have not forgotten their struggle, and I will do everything I can to create jobs and continue to improve our economy."
