Today, U.S. Representative Patrick E. Murphy cosponsored bipartisan legislation to eliminate any cuts to military retiree cost-of-living-adjustments (COLAs) included in the Bipartisan Budget Act of 2013. This bill was introduced by Congressman Jeff Miller (R-FL), Chairman of the House Committee on Veterans Affairs. There are approximately 65,000 veterans in Florida's 18th Congressional District.
"I supported the recent bipartisan budget deal as a positive first step towards much needed compromise in Congress that provides stability for American families and businesses. However, like any compromise, there were things included that I don't agree with. The reduction of pension benefits for some future military retirees gives me the most concern," said Rep. Murphy. "That is why I am proud to support Chairman Miller's bill to restore earned benefits for those courageous men and women who serve our great nation. I hope this common sense solution receives the same bipartisan support as the budget deal to make sure our service members receive the benefits they deserve."
