Congressman Gus M. Bilirakis (R-FL) today joined the House Foreign Affairs Committee's Africa, Global Health, Global Human Rights and International Organizations Subcommittee and the Middle East and North Africa Subcommittee for a joint hearing on the ongoing human rights abuses against Coptic Christians in Egypt.

Bilirakis, who is a member of the International Religious Freedom Caucus, has been a strong advocate of religious freedom for all faiths throughout his tenure in Congress. In recent years, he has led multiple efforts to prevent the Egyptian military from using U.S. taxpayer dollars to persecute and attack thousands of Coptic Christians and other religious minorities.
