At his weekly press briefing today, Congressman John Boehner (R-West Chester) discussed this week's House votes to increase transparency of the president's health care law, and highlighted Republicans' continuing focus on helping the economy grow and create jobs. Following are Boehner's remarks:
"This week, the House will pass, well will consider two bills to increase the transparency of the president's health care law. They would require the administration to disclose information on enrollment [and] security with regard to the ObamaCare exchanges. These measures are part of a broader effort to protect the American people from the consequences of this disastrous law.
"The president doesn't want anyone to see what's taking place with this law, but the millions of Americans being hurt by it frankly have a right to know.
"While we will continue to carry out this oversight obligation, our primary focus will continue to be jobs and the economy.
"For every American that's out of work, it's a personal crisis for them and their family. That's why House Republicans have acted on dozens of bills to help our economy, to help create more jobs, that are being blocked by the Democrat-controlled Senate. These bills would provide job training skills for the unemployed, ease regulations and mandates that are costing jobs, promote innovation and education, and create energy and infrastructure jobs just to name a few. The president should call on the Senate to act on these bills.
"One month ago I told the White House that another extension of temporary emergency unemployment benefits should be paid for, but should also do something to help get our economy moving and to create more jobs. The president has ignored that recommendation. If he produces such a plan, I'll be happy to discuss it, but we're going to remain focused on creating jobs and putting Americans back to work."
