Today, U.S. Senator Kay Hagan (NC) announced that she is joining her colleague Senator Mark Pryor (AR) in introducing a bill to restore cuts to military retiree pensions included in the bipartisan budget agreement. The agreement, reached by Congressman Paul Ryan and Senator Patty Murray, passed the House and Senate with bipartisan support and replaces the harmful sequestration cuts that threaten our military capabilities and the safety of our troops.
"I am opposed to the provision in the bipartisan budget agreement that reduces pensions for military retirees, and I am joining my colleagues in introducing legislation that restore those cuts for the men and women who have served our country with honor and distinction," said Hagan. "We must keep the promises we've made to our veterans, who have put their lives on the line to protect us, and I will be working in the Senate to ensure they receive the benefits they have earned."
Hagan also voted this week during consideration of the budget bill to allow additional amendments and create an opportunity to strike the provision reducing cost of living adjustments (COLA) for military retirees under 62.
