Attorney General Eric Holder In New Orleans Today: Will He Explain Why His Department Is Suing To Obstruct The Louisiana Scholarship Program?

As U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder prepares for a visit to New Orleans today to deliver remarks at a ceremony for a new U.S. Attorney, Governor Bobby Jindal is reissuing his request for the Attorney General to visit scholarship schools participating in Louisiana's school choice program and meet with parents who have children in the program.

To date, Attorney General Holder has been silent on his Department of Justice's legal challenge to the Louisiana Scholarship Program, which could force thousands of children back into failing schools.

Governor Jindal, "We appreciate the Attorney General's visit to our state, but he would be remiss if he leaves Louisiana without visiting scholarship schools or meeting with the parents. The Attorney General is leading a department that is trying to force thousands of poor children back into failing schools.

"Instead of giving parents a voice in the legal challenge, Eric Holder's Department of Justice filed a motion to muzzle parents and not allow them to voice their concerns. That's shameful. These parents deserve to have their voices heard, but Eric Holder is ignoring them. President Obama and the Attorney General have the advantage of enough personal wealth to send their children to great schools. Good for them, I don't begrudge them a bit. But the simple fact is that every child in America deserves the opportunity to get a great education."
