Over the weekend, the White House announced an agreement with Iran regarding their production of nuclear weapons. In exchange, the United States would ease some of the tough sanctions that have been crippling the economy of Iran. Unfortunately, the deal is very one-sided. Iran can keep its 11,000 useable centrifuges and can continue to produce enriched uranium as long as it remains at five percent.
Members of Congress on both sides of the aisle immediately came out against the agreement, including the Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee Ed Royce (R-CA), Senate Democratic Policy Committee Chairman Chuck Schumer (D-NY), and the Chairman of the House Intelligence Committee Mike Rogers (R-MI). Our two closest allies in the region -- Israel and Saudi Arabia -- have also both strongly come out against the agreement. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called it "an historic mistake" and said that it would make "the world a much more dangerous place."
I could not agree more.
Iran is a country that is one of the top supporters of terrorism around the world. They continue to call for the overthrow of the United States and Israel and provide support for some of the world's most dangerous countries and organizations. They can be linked to the deaths of American forces overseas. They cannot be trusted. And by easing the tough sanctions imposed on them by the United States it will only give them more resources to continue to support terrorism around the world, to continue to pose a serious threat to Israel and the United States, and to continue their production of nuclear weapons behind closed doors.
This shows once again just how naïve and inexperienced President Obama and his aides are, especially when it comes to matters of foreign affairs. Unless the deal includes dismantling their current nuclear program, the deal is worthless. This is a flight of fancy by President Obama and Secretary of State John Kerry that, as Prime Minister Netanyahu said will only make the world a much more dangerous place.
