Today Alaskan Congressman Don Young (U.S. Army 1955-1957) released the following statement commemorating Veterans Day:
"On Monday, the 11th day of November, we honor the sacrifice and commitment of our nation's servicemen and women. Without their service, courage, and willingness to lay their lives on the line, the United States would not be the great nation we call home today."
"In Alaska, where more than 20,000 active duty servicemen and women and over 77,000 veterans call home, it's critically important that we take a moment to reflect on those who defend the freedoms we know here at home and sometimes take for granted. I encourage every Alaskan to take a moment out of their busy schedule this weekend to offer their sincerest gratitude to our veterans.
"I want to personally thank each and every veteran for their service to this great nation. I am eternally grateful for the commitments you've made and the sacrifices you've faced. May God bless you and your families."
