Congressman Carter Observes Anniversary of Fort Hood Shooting

Statement

Congressman John Carter (R-TX31) is releasing the following statement regarding the fourth anniversary of the Fort Hood shooting:

"As we observe the fourth anniversary of the deadly attack on Fort Hood, I ask Americans to take a moment to remember and pray for the victims and families of the victims that were harmed on November 5, 2009. These heroes deserve to be remembered and they deserve the same benefits and recognition as soldiers who have died in combat overseas. This is why I am calling on my House colleagues to support the Fort Hood Heroes Act, to award the Purple Heart and benefits to the victims of the attack and their family members," said Congressman John Carter Chairman of the Homeland Security Appropriations Subcommittee. "These soldiers and their families have waited too long to gain recognition for their heroism and compensation for the pain they have suffered. Just as we honored the victims and survivors of the September 11, 2001 attacks, so too should we honor these brave men and women. I urge President Obama and the Democrat-controlled Senate to face the truth, reject political correctness, and pass the Fort Hood Heroes Act."

This September, Congressman John Carter and Congressman Roger Williams introduced the Fort Hood Heroes Act (H.R. 3111) to ensure the victims of the tragic Nov. 5, 2009 terrorist attack on Fort Hood receive their due benefits and awards. The Honoring the Fort Hood Heroes Act is a companion bill to Senator John Cornyn's (R-TX) legislation. The legislation is currently cosponsored by every member of the Texas Delegation and has received overwhelming bipartisan and bicameral support.
