Today, U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) applauded the unveiling of the new westbound I-90 Innerbelt Bridge and called for additional investments in infrastructure that boost American competitiveness and helps to create jobs, grow the economy, and strengthen the middle class. The highway project, which replaces nearly one mile of I-90 with two new bridges, used nearly $80 million in federal funds which Brown helped secure through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA).

"Investments in infrastructure are investments in job creation, with the new westbound I-90 Innerbelt Bridge a shining example," Brown said. "Using federal funds, this highway project will continue to create jobs, make drivers safer, and help grow Northeast Ohio's economy. The lesson is that by building this country, we can build its middle class."

I-90 was originally constructed more than half a century ago during the 1950s. Today's event featured Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) Director Jerry Wray and Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson, among others. I-90 westbound is set for completion by the end of this month, with demolition of the existing bridge--and reconstruction of eastbound I-90--set to be completed by the fall of 2016.
