Congressman Jim Himes (CT-4) released the following statement on the one-year anniversary of Superstorm Sandy:

"One year ago today, Connecticut was hit by one of the worst storms in its history. Superstorm Sandy left hundreds of thousands of families without power, tore homes from their foundations, and resulted in historic levels of flooding along the coastline and billions of dollars in damage. When I toured damages across my district in the days that followed, I was touched both by the sheer extent of the destruction and by the resiliency of my constituents.

"One year later, Connecticut continues to rebuild, bolstered by state and federal assistance and by our own can-do spirit. Though our memories of the storm and the long, cold nights that followed may be fading from memory, for many families and businesses in Southwest Connecticut, the long-term effects of this storm are still all too real. On today's anniversary of one of the most extreme weather events this country has ever witnessed, I pledge to continue working with federal, state, and local leaders to ensure that those affected by Sandy get the assistance they still need."
