Email Update: Without a Single Earmark

Statement

Dear Friend,

Last Monday morning, it was a privilege to be a part of the social breakfast group at Sanctuary Ridge Restaurant in Summit Greens and discuss some of the principles I am fighting for in Washington. Several people expressed concerns about Obamacare, and shared their experience of how the law has already negatively affected them. This is a refrain that I am hearing from individuals, businesses, and health care providers from all over the district. I remain committed to doing all I can to continue fighting for equal treatment for all under the law and advocating for a system that provides the care you need, from the doctor and health care professional you choose, at a price you can afford.

Last Monday, I also joined Governor Jeb Bush at the American Trucking Association Advocacy Luncheon in Orlando. It was great to catch up with Governor Bush and discuss issues that will continue to spur economic growth and create jobs in Florida. As a member of the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, I realize the importance of infrastructure, and appreciated the discussions with leaders of the American Trucking Association about the work they are doing to enhance our economy.

I was privileged to join national executives and local employees for the ribbon cutting and grand opening of Microsoft's newest retail location at the Mall at Millenia. This expansion will continue to bring jobs to Central Florida, and I was pleased to recognize Microsoft's dedication to supporting local non-profit organizations.

I enjoyed meeting with Paula Stenzler, who came to my office as a representative for the Society of Women Engineers (SWE). Having graduated from Georgia Tech with a degree in Engineering, I understand the importance of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics for our competitiveness in the global economy. SWE is the driving force that establishes engineering as a highly desirable career aspiration for women.

If you are visiting Washington, please contact my office. If I am in town, it would be a pleasure to personally meet you and officially welcome you to Washington.

Your servant,

Daniel Webster
Member of Congress

Constituent Corner:

A constituent from Ocoee contacted my office about a problem she was experiencing with her Social Security Disability Claim. Although the constituent had applied for disability, her case was initially denied due to missing medical documents. When she tried reapplying, there was no response. We made an inquiry to the Social Security Administration on her behalf and a few weeks later, the constituent called to express her appreciation and say she had been contacted by the Social Security Administration.

Share Your View:

On top of the highly publicized technical difficulties with the Obamacare website, reports about the damaging effects of the President's health care law ranging from lost coverage to premium hikes are beginning to emerge. Just this week, the President extended the Obamacare enrollment deadline, and a bipartisan group of Representatives and Senators are echoing my call for a delay in the individual mandate. The mandate requires every citizen to obtain health insurance or pay a tax penalty.

Do you believe that the individual mandate should be delayed for at least a year?

Legislative Update:

By an overwhelmingly bipartisan vote of 417 to 3, the House passed a water infrastructure authorization last week.

The Water Resources Reform and Development Act, which actually cuts more than it spends, is a down payment on our future economy and environment. It reforms federal bureaucracy, is fiscally responsible, strengthens accountability, and creates jobs -- all without a single earmark.

Florida's fifteen seaports support more than 500,000 Florida jobs and generate $66 billion in total economic value. The coming expansion of the Panama Canal offers the potential for even greater economic opportunity and job creation in Florida, but only if our sea port infrastructure is prepared for it. Passage of this legislation represents a crucial investment in Florida's future as a hub for international trade and commerce. This bill also made a necessary investment in Florida's natural environment and safe drinking water supply by advancing several critical Everglades restoration efforts.

I had the privilege of leading the debate on the House Floor on Wednesday, and you can see a portion of that discussion here.
