Gov. Heineman Comments on Passing of Former Omaha Congressman McCollister

Gov. Dave Heineman today issued the following statement regarding the passing of former Congressman John Y. McCollister:

"Congressman McCollister was an outstanding Congressman and represented Nebraska with distinction. He was a World War II veteran, a dedicated civil servant, a respected business leader, and he was a good friend. He will be missed and our thoughts and prayers are with his family."

Congressman McCollister, 92, of Omaha served as a Navy radar officer in the Pacific during World War II. He was a three-term member of the United States House of Representatives for the Second Congressional District serving from 1971 to 1977. He had previously served as a Douglas County Commissioner.
