This week, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) released a new study finding that nearly half - 46% - of single young adults who are uninsured and may be eligible for coverage in the new Marketplaces could get coverage for $50 or less per month. After the release of this study, Congressman John Conyers, Jr. (D-Mich.) issued the following statement:
"Young adults are the age group most likely to be without health insurance. A recently released report by the Department of Health and Human Services highlights how young adults are going to be able to find affordable, quality coverage in the new Marketplaces thanks to the premium tax credits provided by the Affordable Care Act," said Conyers.
Specifically, the report examined data from the 34 Federally Facilitated Marketplaces and State Partnership Marketplaces and found that out of the 2.9 million single adults ages 18 to 34 who may be eligible for coverage in the Marketplaces, 1.3 million (or 46 percent) could purchase a bronze plan for $50 per month or less, after tax credits.
The report also found that a total of 1.9 million young adults in these 34 states, representing 66 percent of these young adults, may be able to pay $100 or less for coverage in 2014.
