The Marcellus Shale is a good thing for Pennsylvania. It has the potential to boost our state and local economy, be a bridge fuel for reduced dependency on oil, and position PA on the world stage for natural gas energy production. By virtue of the state constitution, the natural resources of PA belong to Pennsylvanians. Natural gas extraction must be done so safely and responsibly, with proper oversight from PA DEP and with companies contributing their fair share. I believe strongly that we should be planning now for when the Shale no longer exists. Funding should be set aside to pay for education, infrastructure and the community development necessary for when the Shale runs out.
