McMorris Rodgers Working to Maintain Local Decision Making Regarding Bonneville Power Administration

Statement

Date: Oct. 28, 2013
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Energy

Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers (WA-05), Chair of the House Republican Conference, released the following statement regarding the memorandum from the Department of Energy (DOE) on the Bonneville Power Association (BPA).

"Throughout Eastern Washington and the entire the Pacific Northwest, the Bonneville Power Administration has provided affordable, reliable, and clean energy for millions of families and businesses. It is important that BPA's management, a ratepayer funded agency, stays within the region and its ratepayers continue to remain decision makers to ensure a well-functioning BPA for the entire region.

"While the unfair hiring practice issues that were recently brought to light need to be addressed swiftly, thoroughly, and with transparency, this does not necessitate a direct take-over of Bonneville Power Administration by the Department of Energy. I am committed to carefully monitoring this ongoing situation and will work with my colleagues to ensure BPA continues to operate as a distinct agency from the Department of Energy and that its mission to provide affordable electricity and maintain the region's hydropower system is not compromised."
