Date: Oct. 18, 2013
Location: Washington, DC

The chair of the Senate Homeland Security Appropriations Subcommittee, U.S. Senator Mary L. Landrieu, D-La., today released the following statement on the President's intention to nominate Jeh Johnson as Secretary of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

"Identifying the right person to lead the Department of Homeland Security is critical, and I look forward to meeting Mr. Johnson and reviewing his credentials. While we have made significant progress to protect our homeland during the last decade, the country continues to face an onslaught of ever-evolving threats. It needs a strong leader to tackle these and many other challenges to keep our borders secure, facilitate trade and travel efficiently, protect against cyber-attacks and make flood insurance affordable."
