Rep. Scott Garrett (R-NJ), senior member of the House Budget Committee, and Chairman of the Financial Services Subcommittee on Capital Markets and Government-Sponsored Enterprises, issued the following statement after voting against a spending bill that did not address any of our nation's imminent fiscal problems:
"From the beginning, I opposed a government shutdown. I believed the Senate and the House should sit down, debate the tough issues facing our nation, and hash out solutions to our imminent problems. Once again, this did not happen. Instead, now at the eleventh hour, we passed a bill that contains zero spending reforms and offers no relief for the millions of Americans suffering under ObamaCare. Tonight, we once again failed the American people. Our nation is steadily speeding down a path of no return, and our children and grandchildren are another step closer to being forever burdened with a future of higher taxes, inflation, skyrocketing interest rates, and massive unemployment thanks to our inaction."
