Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi issued this statement following the announcement of an agreement to end the strike by transit workers employed by the Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) system:

"Both sides should be congratulated for going back to the table and finding an agreement that preserves worker safety, provides a fair raise, and allows BART to invest in the future.

"This good news, however, is dimmed by the loss the entire Bay Area feels with the tragic loss of two BART workers Saturday afternoon. Our thoughts and prayers are with their families and coworkers at this difficult time.

"The investigation by the National Transit Safety Board is a welcome development, and when they complete their report I am hopeful all sides will swiftly implement any safety recommendations the board may make."
