Jones Defends Second Amendment Rights

Today, Congressman Walter B. Jones (NC-3) spoke out in defense of the Second Amendment, which has come under attack with President Barack Obama's decision to sign the United Nations (UN) Arms Trade Treaty. The treaty does not recognize the individual right to own and operate a gun, paves the way for a national gun registry, and opens the door to additional gun sale regulations. In response to the president's actions, Congressman Jones joined 179 of his colleagues in the House in signing a letter stating that they will stand with the Senate in opposition to ratification of the treaty and will refuse passage of any legislation allowing implementation or funding for the terms of the treaty.

"The Obama administration has an unfortunate history of violating the constitutional rights of Americans, and this is no exception," said Congressman Jones. "This assault on the right of law-abiding citizens to own a gun is unacceptable and sets a dangerous precedent for the future of our country."
