Following the deal reached by the Senate and passed by the House of Representatives to reopen the federal government and raise the nation's debt ceiling, Congressman John F. Tierney released the following statement:
"I supported the bipartisan Senate agreement to reopen the federal government and raise the nation's debt ceiling, but this was an outcome that should have happened weeks ago and certainly before any shutdown occurred. I hope the lesson that Speaker Boehner learns is that the American people are tired of House Republicans' divisive politics, manufactured crises, and perpetual brinksmanship. We must responsibly govern again. I am also hopeful that we can quickly come to a bipartisan agreement that responsibly replaces the devastating sequester cuts with budget decisions that keep spending within reason while allowing for critical and smart investments that create jobs and move our country forward. Congress must renew its focus on creating jobs and strengthening the middle class," Congressman Tierney said.
