Congressman Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) issued the following statement on House passage of H.R. 3230, the Pay Our Guard and Reserve Act. This bill would ensure that members of the reserve and guard components of the Armed Forces get paid, including the Army National Guard, the Army Reserve, the Navy Reserve, the Marine Corps Reserve, the Air National Guard, the Air Force Reserve and the Coast Guard Reserve.

"Earlier today I received a note from General Max Haston informing me that due to the government shutdown he had to furlough more than 1,400 members of the Tennessee National Guard. It is simply not fair that these individuals be punished because President Obama and Senate Democrats refuse to act. Their pay should not be held hostage by this Democrat government shutdown. That is why Republicans in the House have acted today to restore this critical funding to ensure these heroes can get back to work and continue to put food on the table for their families. We will continue to fight on behalf of the American people for solutions to get our government back up and running again. It's time for Harry Reid and the President to release their hostages and join us in honoring our promises to these brave men and women."
