Fleming Calls for Resignation of HHS Secretary

Congressman John Fleming, M.D., released the following statement as he called for the resignation of Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius:

"Kathleen Sebelius should resign as Secretary of Health and Human Services. The rollout of Obamacare, like the law itself, has been a mess. For the sake of the American health care system, as well as jobs and the economy, Obamacare should be repealed. In the meantime, someone must be held accountable for wasting taxpayer dollars on a rollout that was more than three years in the making. It's not just the $634 million spent on Obamacare websites that experts say are plagued by far more than just glitches, and which internet security expert John McAfee has called a hacker's dream; but it's the billions that have been spent to stand up a system that has become fodder for comedy routines on late night talk shows. It's been reported that just last Friday, Secretary Sebelius attended a government-sponsored Obamacare enrollment event in Pittsburgh where individuals could not access the Obamacare website, even with certified counselors providing help.

"Had investors launching a private company devoted even a fraction of the time and treasure that's been spent on Obamacare, people would have been fired by now. Taxpayers should not have to tolerate this kind of waste and incompetence from Washington. Secretary Sebelius has been a governor and a state insurance commissioner; she must know better. She was warned repeatedly by all of us who called for a one-year delay of Obamacare's implementation and taxes to prevent this chaos. Now, it's time for her to resign or be fired."

Dr. John Fleming is Chairman of the Natural Resources Subcommittee on Fisheries, Wildlife, Oceans and Insular Affairs and is a member of the House Armed Services Committee. He is a physician and small business owner and represents the 4th Congressional District of Louisiana.
