Tonight, Rep. Ralph Hall (TX-04) voted in favor of H.R. 3273, the Bicameral Working Group on Deficit Reduction and Economic Growth. The bill, which passed 224-197, would create a bipartisan working group comprised of Senators and House Members to discuss negotiations for a budget solution and debt ceiling agreement that would reopen the government.

"Today's bill is an effort to demonstrate the House's willingness to negotiate a budget solution with our Democrat colleagues," said Hall. "One week has passed since the President and Democrat-controlled Senate refused all House attempts to negotiate and forced the government into a shutdown. It is time for them to join us at the table to discuss a solution so we can get the government back open for the American people."

Hall continued, "I would respectfully remind the President and Senate that House Republicans offered several budget options prior to the shutdown. It is the President who has adamantly refused to sign anything other than a blank-check CR and is only willing to talk to Republicans after we meet his demands.

"It is my hope that after rejecting Republicans' first invitation to meet and negotiate a budget solution, Democrats will accept our second invitation. I look forward to a productive meeting with the Senate."
