Congressman Enyart Remarks on Patriot Coal Settlement

Congressman Bill Enyart (D-IL) today issued the following statement regarding the announced Patriot Coal Company bankruptcy settlement:

"I am very pleased to hear that employees and retirees of Patriot Coal have negotiated a settlement that will retain health care benefits for thousands of coal miners and their families. I commend the workers, retirees and their families for standing strong and united throughout this long and anxious ordeal. I hope today's announcement brings peace of mind for them.

"The settlement announced today will fully fund the health care obligations of Patriot for about four years. Today I'm reaffirming my commitment to miners and retirees to ensure a long-term solution. I will continue to push legislation to assist retirees who lose benefits following the bankruptcy or insolvency of their employer. My goal is a lasting solution for coal miners and their families."
